Mariko Kawano is a Global Marketing Executive and Brand & Growth Strategist with 15+ years of experience building and scaling DTC and omnichannel brands through strategies that accelerate revenue, strengthen customer relationships, and expand market presence.

Mariko has led multi-million-dollar campaigns for global brands including Walmart, TD Bank, Hyundai, Levi’s, Under Armour, Sears, and V8, aligning marketing teams across Toronto, Los Angeles, and New York. Her work has included multilingual campaigns in English, French, and Spanish across North American markets, balancing unified brand direction with cultural nuance to maximize impact.

Today, Mariko is the Founder & CEO of Appi, a consumer health startup developing a new microbiome wellness brand from the ground up. She leads brand strategy, positioning, consumer research, go-to-market planning, digital experience, and investor storytelling. Previously, she founded Heiwa Honey, a purpose-driven brand rooted in sustainability and community that gained national media recognition and developed province-wide partnerships. Earlier in her career, she led retail marketing across 12 brands and 700+ stores, launching e-commerce platforms, modernizing customer acquisition, and unifying brand direction across departments.

Mariko also served as a marketing professor at Sheridan College’s Pilon School of Business, teaching courses including The Creative Process and Brand Storytelling. Her approach emphasized both best practices and the “reverse-engineering” of unsuccessful campaigns—helping emerging marketers evaluate creative work, sharpen strategic thinking, and understand how brands can adapt and rebuild.

Mariko has completed the TRIUM Global Executive MBA program, jointly delivered by NYU Stern, the London School of Economics, and HEC Paris, with graduation in September 2026. The program expanded her expertise in international growth, strategy, innovation, and executive decision-making.

She thrives at the intersection of brand, growth, and creative strategy—turning consumer insight into compelling narratives, experiences, and campaigns that drive commercial results.
